Ross, A Field of Dreams

Ross Field

By jacob jablonowski

Ross Field is hot dogs and hamburgers and the concession stand.

Ross Field is watching the 11 and 12 year old all stars playing on a late Saturday night and chasing the baseballs that get bombed off the field

Ross Field is early 9 o’clock games and I’m the first one there and I play catch with the second one

Ross Field is winning and disappointingly losing.

Ross Field is having seed spitting contests with my friends.

Ross Field is when I’m at bat seeing my brother and sister happily playing on the playscape across the street.

Ross Field is knowing that my grandparents are watching me on my grandpas iPad through that special camera up on the backstop.

Ross Field is when I’m in my bed dreaming on a Friday night of hitting a bomb to left field the next day.

Every season, Glastonbury Little League honors the recipients of its most prestigious award, the Evan Simon Sportsmanship Award. For most divisions of play, the recipients gather for team practices and Sportsmanship Games at Ross Field. The award recipients are given cool looking plaques that signifies their achievement. Addionally, their names are inscribed on the Ross Field Wall of Fame in center field, a solemn area that also has memorial stones honoring Richard H. Ross and SGT Steven DeLuzio and the SGT Steve Flagpole.

As an added treat for the GLL Sportsmanship Recepients, they receive a free meal at Glastonbury's 99Restaurant when accompanied by parents. The recipients need only to wear their Evan Simon Sportsmanship game shirt to get the freebie!! The Restaurant also places the special Sportsmanship Trophy at the table while the player enjoys their meal.

Above is Baseball Minor Leaguer Emily Thompson, her team's winner of the award. Emily, a long time GLL standout player, a consistent attendee in skills camps has just completed her Minor League season, will be playing Fall Baseball and will move on the Majors in the 2020 season. The talk on the street is that there were no leftovers left for Emily to take home, must have been a great meal.

So Proud of you, Emily!!
